Introduction
Counted among the leading exponents of Bharatanatyam today, Ramya Ramnarayan combines legacy, expertise, and experience. A protege of two doyens of the dance form: Kalaimamani SK Rajarathnam Pillai and Padma Bhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan, Ramya is recognized as an accomplished performer, choreographer, educator, and a torchbearer of this art who blends tradition with innovation.

She has received the Artist Fellowship Award for Choreography from Mid Atlantic Foundation of Arts twice and is recognized as a master teaching artist by New Jersey State Council of the Arts, besides receiving the coveted Kalamamani, Nadanamamani, and Nrithya Seva Mani.
The Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey have passed a joint resolution recognizing Ramya for her commitment, dedication, and achievement in the arts.

Ramya is featured yearly in prestigious Sabhas during the Music and Dance season at Chennai such as the Narada Gana Sabha, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine Arts, Kartik Fine Arts, and many other Sabhas around the city. She has also performed at various Indian cities at reputed arts organizations in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Vijayawada, and Pune. She has conducted lecture demonstrations at numerous schools, colleges, libraries and reaching out to over 10,000 audience members per year. She was a visiting faculty appointment in the Dance Department at Mason Gross School of Arts - affiliated to Rutgers University and Sarah Lawrence College, NY.
Honoring her Guru
Ramya released a dance DVD at the Cleveland festival, a tribute to her Guru S.K. Rajarathnam Pillai. She also presented a full-length concert at the Clevel and Aradhana. In 2022, she released the part 2 of the DVD and offering her homage to her Guru S.K. Rajarathnam Pillai for his 90 birth year celebrations.
Current Projects
She is one among 9 artists in the state of NJ to have been selected to participate in Dodge Dance Lab, a teaching laboratory to recommend, design, revise, structure, and implement culturally responsive strategies for better student learning. Moreover, Ramya is also one among 20 professionals selected in the State of New Jersey by the Grunin Foundation and New Jersey Council on the Arts to attend an arts professional learning institute in 2022. Ramya is also the recipient of the Arts for Learning grant to implement dance residency 2022 at the NJ public schools to impact elementary dance education. Guru Ramya has also received a Dance New Jersey Grant 2022. There was a highly competent pool of artists who were part of the review across the state from which a selected few were chosen to springboard new production and teaching venues in NJ.
